Question

Reason

Action/Notes

Do you have any questions about the recording process or what will happen to the recording afterwards?

→ If not, I would start recording the session.

Starting question before the recording starts. We should ask for consent on camera.

Start the recording session, if the answer is YES.

Do you have any objections about us recording this session, including your voice and face or my colleague taking notes on the side?

If the answer is No, continue with asking questions about the personal data.

Please tell us a few details about you.

What is your name and age?

What is your job title?

Gather personal information

continue with a short onboarding text and post the link in the Teams chat.

Explain what will happen next on the session.

Questions we want to ask (DRAFT)

...

User clicks on link and we ask him to share the screen with us. Explain the user should take the time to read through the onboarding page - this should take about 5-10 minutes .

Question and requests

Reason

Action/Notes

Onboarding page:

  1. What was your first impression of the website?

  2. Can you describe the goal of the website?

  3. Please explain in your own words what a use case is and building blocks are

  4. Could you please start the simulation?

Does the onboarding page explain the simulation accordingly?

What kind of information would we need to add to explain the simulation better?

Is the page self explanatory?

Wait a few minutes/moments before asking questions

After the tutorial is completed:

  1. How did you feel about the pacing and content/text of the tutorial?

  2. Was there anything in the tutorial that surprised you or that you didn't expect?

  3. How confident do you feel in your ability to use the simulation after completing the tutorial?

We want to check if the user knows what to do on their own, otherwise the tutorial is not a good onboarding option.

Tutorial starts - Wait until the user clicks through the whole tutorial. Just intervene if asked.

Simulation:

  1. How do you feel about the user interface of the simulation?

  2. How clear is the displayed information for you?

  3. Can you describe the roles and tasks in the simulation?

  4. → Ask this questions after the first few interactions: What tasks have you completed so far?

  5. How do you feel about the hints?

  6. How do you feel about the DIAL menu? Do you find this helpful? If yes/no, please explain why.

  7. How do you feel about the contextual change? Do you understand which perspective you are currently viewing?

  8. How do you feel about the progress bar?

  9. How would you describe your understanding of how the building blocks are used?

How “good” do the UI Elements feel?

Did the information get transported as we planned?

Does the perspective/context change work?

Does the progress bar work - if not, maybe it can be removed from the layout.

Ask these questions after the user used the simulation for a few actions.

How useful are the overlays?

This part should take about 10-15 Minutes

End Questions:

  1. What are the most memorable challenges have you encountered in the simulation?

  2. What would make your experience on the simulation better?

  3. Can you walk me through your thought process as you completed the tasks?

  4. Further Tutorial question: After experiencing the simulation - can you think of any changes you would make of the tutorial?

  5. Please explain what are the next steps you would take?

Ask the user to close the prototype and stop the screen sharing, so we can ask them a couple of more questions.
