Research questions to answer through workshop

Standards

How prescriptive should we be

Would teams benefit from a step-by-step list of actions for implementing building blocks

Do they need to assess services meet the guidelines

Should this be aimed at teams who do not have design experience

Should we assume they have the knowledge to implement accessible/responsive products already

Will they need assurance processes?

What standards should be met

Is the content simple enough

What is the make up of the teams

How much detail do the teams need

Should we outline what roles they need? or guide them on the design process / opportunities for digital

Is the team familiar with a user centred approach

Patterns

Are they using any platforms for their guidance etc?

what patterns do they need

Do they already have an existing design system or styleguides

what level of detail do they need

Do they need HTML templates and frontend components

Should we provide more content examples

How will they use the patterns

Are the patterns flexible enough

Are the patterns useful in their current form

What are the needs for a frontend

How important is a frontend bb

Workshop

Understand goals

Review the user experience goals already identified

We could run a pre-mortem kind of exercise:

  • We succeeded because

  • Challenges we overcame

Discuss what else a standard should define, for example:

  • Team structure

  • Gender and social equality

  • Sustainability

Review standards

Demo standards and assurance processes:

  • GOV.UK service standards + assurance process

  • Cyprus checklist style assurance

  • Example with no assurance?

Feedback on draft standard:

  • Good

  • Could be better

  • Change

How might we develop a standards process:

  • Now

  • Next (RFP?)

  • Future

Discuss patterns

Share examples:

  • Jabar Digital Service / Japan Digital Agency Figma patterns

  • Another example? Cyprus adapted frontend framework (bootstrap)

  • GOV.UK Design System

What might a minimum viable design system look like for Somalia:

  • Now

  • Next (RFP?)

  • Future

Questions

Who will be attending the workshop

How shall we run it, post it notes and print outs or online tools like Mural or google Docs

How engaged are they, will they have open discussions or share more through activities and prompts

Who will run the workshop

When do we need to have the materials ready for

What is our goal for the workshop
